ABOUT ABOUT

Concert Description:

La Folia" is a program inspired by Rachmaninov's wonderful variations for solo piano, which features the theme from Correlli's Sonata for violin and continue in D minor, Op. 5, No. 12. This work is juxtaposed by Bach's famous "Chaconne" for solo violin which follows it's own development of variations throughout the work. The program ends with Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata in A Major which features his rich native harmonic language with the Classical traditions he valued highly, held together in a cyclic framework.

Program:

Sergey Rachmaninov (1873-1943): Corelli Variations for solo piano, Op. 42

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750): Partita in D minor, BWV 1004, V. Chaconne

Cesar Franck (1822-1890): Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano
